This is a dovetailed box made in solid American black walnut, with a cedar of Lebanon base and inserted sides. Made as part of my training with Jonathan Markovitz, it forms the basis of all traditional furniture making study and is a core piece for experimenting with woods, finishes, joins and effects in miniature.

Boxes of this kind can be made in almost any size, and are particularly lovely as memory chests or jewellery boxes. Significant birthdays, christenings, weddings or events can be marked with a bespoke box, perhaps with names, initials or dates carved into the wood.

A commission of a similar box would start from approximately £50, with the price dependent on preferred size, choice of wood and other details.
